Tribute to Sergeant Ian Taylor

On Friday afternoon, April 26th, the Billerica community suffered an unthinkable tragedy. We lost one of police officers who was working a detail for a construction site.

Sgt Ian Taylor had a 21 year law enforcement career, 12 of those years which were with Billerica. He served as a detective and worked tirelessly with the Billerica Substance Awareness & Prevention Committee.

It was an honor to stand solemnly this past Sunday with his fellow brothers and sisters, firefighters, EMT's and other residents as Sgt Taylor was escorted past the station one last time.

I also appreciated the opportunity to be in attendance for his vigil that same night, where I learned that he clearly was an outstanding officer, about the passion he had for his job, how well loved he was, and all about his infectious smile.

Our community mourns with his family, and it is heartwarming to see the respect throughout town with blue lights shining bright, and flags at half staff.

I wholeheartedly thank this brave young man for his devotion to our Billerica Community. May he rest in peace.

Donations may be made to The Greg Hill Foundation to support Sergeant Taylor’s family at https://www.thegreghillfoundation.org/donations/billerica-police-sergeant-ian-taylor/
